Internship Opportunities



Washington D.C.


  1. Utah State has a strong track record of placing USU students in all of the Utah Congressmen's offices. Students can apply and interview for the opportunity to work in Washington, D.C. for Senator Hatch, Senator Lee, Congressman Bishop, Congressman Chaffetz, or Congressman Matheson. If students have lived, or have relatives living, in another state they will also be eligible to apply for an internship with that state's politicians. The deadline for the spring application is the first week in October and the deadline for the summer application is the middle of February.
  2. The Institute of Government and Politics is striving to expand internship opportunities in Washington, D.C. to include various interests. Below is a list of internships available through various organizations organized according to interests. This is by no means a complete list, but will give you a start as you are looking for possible internships. If you are interested in a particular organization make sure to come talk to us in Main 109 or call 435-797-0257.

Salt Lake City


  1. Each Spring USU sends a handful of students to Salt Lake City to work with the State Legislature during the legislative session. This internship is a 45 day, full-time, paid internship where students are assigned to be a legislator's assistant. This internship allows students to see the legislative process first-hand and network with the most influential people in Utah.

2012 Campaigns in Utah

  1. 2012 is an important election year for the State of Utah. Senator Orrin Hatch, Governor Gary Herbert, an additional fourth Congressional seat, 75 house members, and a third of the Utah Senate will be up for reelection. These races will provide a number of campaign internship opportunities for USU students. If you are interested in working on a campaign please contact the IOGP at 435-797-0257.
