Campus Cook-off is Feb. 28

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013

Utah State University’s Dining Services and Catering have combined to present the first of what is hoped to become an annual event. The Campus Cook-off is being held in the Hub in the Taggart Student Center Thursday, Feb. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The competition will feature three competitors from around the university.

Competition organizers said the event was created to offer a creative outlet to students, faculty and staff as a way to share their talents. After receiving multiple entries, the contest has been narrowed to three participants — Paul Purser, Tracy Hadfield and Shauna Leavitt.

Purser is a non-traditional student from Preston, Idaho, who is pursuing a degree in communications. Hadfield is a staff member in the Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Science Department. Leavitt is a staff member in the College of Natural Resources who has been at USU for 15 years.

These finalists will go head-to-head in the cook-off, preparing an entrée recipe they have created. The competitors will be joined by three chefs from Dining Services, Richard Peterson, Don Donaldson and Jeff Woolley.

The first-place winner will receive a 25-meal block meal plan from Dining Services and will have his or her entrée showcased at the Skyroom once a week for one month. Runners-up will each receive a 10-meal block meal plan.
